Military Law CLE
Tags: Military/Veteran’s; Big Ticket
Seminar Overview:
This CLE will provide critical information to attendees on significant changes to military and veterans law, as well as information needed for those that represent service members and veterans in South Carolina. Attendees can also receive the required three hours of instruction needed to maintain accreditation with the VA.
Seminar Highlights OR What attendees will learn/take away:
Captains Ian Murphy and Breanne Phan will discuss the military sexual assault and domestic assault and changes to the military's treatment of these cases. Tom Andrews will then provide instruction on how best to represent these victims with their VA claims.
Jeffrey Stephens will cover, cursorily, the investigation and prosecution of various sex crimes involving military members as accusers or as victims. The presentation would describe likely scenarios, based on real cases, of allegations of sexual misconduct that involve both military authorities and civilian agencies, how jurisdiction is asserted by either the military or civilian courts - or both, and how the interests of alleged victims are represented in military and civilian systems.
Mary Fran Quindlen is back to discuss family law issues that service members and veterans may encounter.
The seminar will provide one hour of substance abuse and mental health instruction to meet the Bar's biannual requirements.
Finally Kenny Dojaquez will provide updates to VA law that highlight important new rules and case law to help attorneys get the most for their veteran clients.
Who Should Attend:
Attorneys in South Carolina and surrounding states who are Active, Reserve, or National Guard JAG.
Attorneys who represent Active, Reserve, or National Guard service members in criminal or civil litigations.
