Deputy Kopenhaver is a frequent guest speaker/instructor for the Office of
Highway Safety, The South Carolina Prosecution Commission, Mothers Against
Drunk Driving (MADD), and the National Safety Council.
Deputy
Kopenhaver was selected as Ridgeland Police Department’s Officer if the Year
for 2006 and S. Carolina D.P.S. / MADD DUI HERO for 2006. As coordinator for the 14th
Circuit Law Enforcement Network, the 14th LEN was awarded “Network
of the Year” in 2006. The 14th
Circuit Law enforcement Network is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement
network designed to reduce traffic collisions, injuries, and deaths through
education and enforcement.
In
June 2010, Deputy Kopenhaver was selected as the vice chairman of the
enforcement/prosecution/adjudication sub-committee for the Impaired Driving
Prevention Council.
In
November 2011, Deputy Kopenhaver received the “Take Charge” award from the
South Carolina National Safety Council as instructor of the year for the Alive
at 25 program.
In
May 2013, Deputy. Kopenhaver applied for was selected, and successfully
completed the Borkenstein Course on Alcohol and Highway Safety. The Borkenstein Course is a highly advanced
course dealing with the physiology and pharmacology of alcohol. Master
Deputy Kopenhaver was one of 14 law enforcement officers selected from across
the country.
In
May 2018, Master Deputy Kopenhaver was recognized as Traffic Safety Officer of
the Year from the American Legion Post #193 and for the State of South
Carolina. Master Deputy Kopenhaver was
named “Deputy of the Quarter” for the Community Services/Youth Services
Division second quarter. In October
2019, he received the Sheriff’s Medal of Valor and in December 2019 he was
awarded the Deputy of the Year for the Community Services/Youth Services
Division.
