Live Webcast: Advance Directives - An Ethical Overview
Tags: Health Care; Ethics/Professional Responsibility; Big Ticket
The execution and recognition of advance directives can be ethically complex even under the best of circumstances. This presentation will explore challenges such as honoring the wishes of clients who lack competence or decision-making capacity, conflicts between a patient’s living will and the decisions of their healthcare power of attorney, and the ethical implications of applying a standard of evaluation of a patient’s ability to engage in healthcare planning that is risk-based. The presentation will also focus on professional ethical dilemmas for attorneys including conflicts of interest in advance care planning, and risk/benefit analysis when working with patients who have cognitive challenges.
This program qualifies for
1.0 MCLE credit hour, including up to 1.0 LEPR credit hour.
