This program will provide
attorneys, judges and victim advocates with the essential information and
skills needed to help victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking
navigate safety options in both civil and criminal proceedings in South Carolina.
The presentation will cover both the basic legal requirements as well as
essential practice tips from experts in the field regarding how to overcome the
various challenges, myths and systemic barriers clients face when considering
and pursuing these options. Participants
will also learn about the critical role that attorneys can play in developing
holistic, victim-centered legal safety plans that help a survivor find safety,
maintain privacy, access available supportive resources and seek offender
accountability. Lastly, participants
will learn about existing support resources for victims and opportunities to
provide pro bono and low bono representation.
This program qualifies for 6.33 MCLE; 1.0 SA/MH, 6.33 JCLE
