About the Seminar
Want to start a federal criminal practice but not sure where to begin? Want to sharpen your skills or expand your knowledge base in the federal criminal arena? The SC Bar CLE Division and the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers have partnered to present Federal Criminal Practice in South Carolina.
This program offers an opportunity to learn how the federal criminal system works and brings together an experienced faculty of U.S. District and Magistrate judges, as well as federal prosecutors and private practitioners who will show you the ropes.
The program will focus on practical guidance on the differences between the state and federal criminal arenas, with an emphasis on the key procedural distinctives that make federal criminal practice unique. Course Planner Beattie Ashmore has gathered a distinguished faculty including U.S. District Court Judges, Tim Cain, Michelle Childs and Michael Duffy, U.S. Magistrate Judges Mary Gordon Baker, Paige Gossett and Kevin McDonald, former U.S. Attorneys Bill Nettles and Pete Strom, SC Bar President and Assistant U.S. Attorney William Witherspoon, Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stacey Hanes and J.D. Rowell and experienced federal criminal defense practitioners, Dick Harpootlian, Jack Swerling and Diedreich von Lehe.
This program is designed not only to teach the primary areas of differences between state and federal practice, but it will also give you practical guidance on how you can start a federal criminal practice from the ground up.
