Solo practitioners and smaller law firms are often faced with managing personnel issues in addition to running their law practice. Such firms typically do not have dedicated human resources personnel. If you are running a small law firm or solo practice, how do you weave your way through the complex, time consuming and often confusing maze of employment laws that impact your workplace? In order to produce this very practical resource, we assembled a team of editors and authors who make their living offering advice to employers, a number of them certified specialists in Labor and Employment Law. With 15 contributing authors and three editors, the group produced this everyday reference guide for small law firms and solo practitioners. The book covers a broad range of topics, from wage and hour issues to handbooks, drug testing, posting and recordkeeping requirements and the various types of discrimination and harassment employers must avoid. There are also chapters on unemployment compensation, workers' compensation, and immigration law.
