About the Seminar
Our seminar will kick off with a powerful presentation from lead prosecutor Michael Mulligan. Mulligan will discuss the mass shooting that occurred on November 5, 2009 at Fort Hood, Texas in which a U.S. Army Major (also an Army psychiatrist) fatally shot 13 people and injured more than 30 others. It was the deadliest mass shooting on an American military post. The trial took place on Fort Hood, Texas in August 2013. Mulligan will provide a first-hand account of the politics and pressure to characterize the mass shooting as an act of terrorism. He will also discuss many aspects of the case now that it has been declassified and made public. His presentation will also feature video clips from the trial.

Our next presentation features Colonel Kasia Krul, who will give a brief history of the, still relatively young, U.S. Army Trial Defense Service, which celebrated its 40th birthday in 2020. With the implementation of the Military Justice Act (MJA), the Army Trial Defense Service has undergone significant and sweeping change in the past year.

The last session of the seminar will be led by Attorney Kenny Dojaquez. Dojaquez will have an intermediate level discussion of recent regulatory and statutory changes and how the VA is implementing its new claims review process – also known as the AMA. Dojaquez will provide tips on which option to choose upon receipt of a decision from the VA. This presentation will provide attorneys with tools to help navigate the AMA at the agency level, as well as recent case law and tips to help win your clients’ claim! This presentation qualifies for one hour of CLE credits needed to maintain your VA accreditation.
