Where Are We and What Are We Doing?
This presentation from the gentlemen that brought you State of South Carolina v. Michael Vernon Beaty. Solicitor David Stumbo will provide an overview of the facts of the case and the trial of Mr. Beaty. He will be followed by Rauch Wise who will address the appellate process of the case as well as its ramifications on closing arguments in South Carolina and where we are as solicitors, defense attorneys and judges.
The final segment offers a unique and compelling presentation of a Felony DUI from the moment of the crash and tragic death that ensued to the final sentence. Solicitors, defense attorneys and judges often fail to understand and appreciate the stress and demands these cases place on one another. Solicitor Rick Hubbard, whose office prosecuted the case, will offer the perspective of the State. Marion Moses will offer his observations as defense counsel. Finally, Judge Thomas W. Cooper will offer his point of view as the sentencing judge. Don't miss this powerful presentation on how and why we do what we do in these incredibly difficult cases.
