Join the
Criminal Law section and Circuit Court Judges for an engaging discussion on the
latest hot topic issues in criminal law. Judge William McKinnon, Senator Micah
Caskey and Senator Gerald Malloy will kick off the afternoon by providing
judicial and legislative law updates. The program will then pivot to ways to
speed up the docket, including plea affidavits in transfer court and
meaningfully using SC Code 17-23-120-150 for paper pleas for General Sessions
Court. Also covered during this hour will be indictments, their sufficiency,
and what motions you can make involving them. The last hour will include in
part, an ethics discussion on civility and the Lawyers Oath: “To opposing
parties and their counsel, I pledge fairness, integrity, and civility, not only
in court, but also in all written and oral communications.” The last half will
focus on a substance abuse/mental health talk about the docket backlog, the
impact this has had on lawyers, how judges and lawyers can recognize these
issues and how to deal with it. This program will feature a long cast of great
speakers and great topics that you do not want to miss!
