The Al Todd Estate Planning & Taxation Workshop, Special Edition 2022 will be held June 17 -19, at Kiawah Island Resort West Beach Conference Center. This is a wonderful biennial workshop planned specifically for the probate, estate planning (and tax) lawyer.

This year’s CLE programming will be held on Friday morning through lunch, Saturday morning will continue with more CLE programming, and program will conclude around noon. Since we missed last year, we are adding additional CLE programming specifically for the tax law practitioner! Plan to stay for additional CLE programming Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

You can register to attend Part 1, Estate Planning Workshop only; Part 2, Taxation Workshop only; or attend all sessions for a discounted price – stay for all sessions and receive a full year of MCLE credits. Please make your selection when registering.

Join William “Bill” Sanderson, partner and co-chair of McGuireWoods' private wealth services group and a member of the firm’s fiduciary advisory services practice, to start the weekend’s workshop. For at least the last two decades, the federal wealth transfer tax has been in a state of continued – sometimes gradual, sometimes fast-paced - evolution. The first part of his presentation will review the landscape of federal legislation dealing with the estate and gift tax and address trends in recent cases, regulatory guidance, and administrative updates that have an impact on this area. Bill will also address trends in the fiduciary litigation practice through a review of recent cases. We are excited to welcome Bill back to South Carolina.

Friday’s sessions will also include a substance abuse/mental health hour, “Reflections & Strategies for Attorney Well-being” and end with “The Dorchester County Low Dow,” discussion with Judge Mary Blunt.

Saturday will continue with two panel discussions before starting the taxation portion of the workshop, “A Litigator’s and Planner’s Perspectives of Complex Estate Litigation” and “Unintended Consequences of the Power of Attorney.”

For Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, stay around for some additional CLE hours and great taxation content. Topics include S.C. Payroll Taxes, S.C. Tax Nexus issues, and a panel with Wells Hall, current President of the ABA Tax Section.  Sunday will conclude with special guests U.S. Tax Court Trial Judge Adam Landy, CPA Adam Quattlebaum, and insights from economic development attorney Stephanie Yarbrough.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity for advanced-level training, active participation, and networking with your peers at one of the top five travel destinations in North America!

Special thanks to the S.C. Bar’s Probate, Estate Planning & Trust and Tax Law Sections for their support of this wonderful program as well as our other sponsors!

Unfortunately, we cannot accept S.C. Bar complimentary or discount coupons for this program.

This seminar is an advanced level program.
