2024 Transactional/Corporate Practice Essentials

October 17, 2024

The South Carolina Bar Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Division is pleased to announce the 2024 Corporate/Transactional Law Essentials seminar. This introductory course is designed to help practitioners who are new to corporate practice and transactional law navigate the key processes and challenges in this specialized area.

Course planners Melissa Cassel and Will Umbach have assembled a knowledgeable faculty that will provide expert guidance in a relaxed and interactive setting. Participants will learn to assess and apply the law to practical scenarios in areas such as employment agreements and restrictive covenants, choice of entity, corporate and LLC formation, buy-sell agreements, securities, asset and stock purchase agreements, and contract review and drafting. Additionally, Bill Higgins' ethical role plays will spotlight crucial professionalism and ethical issues that can significantly impact your practice.

Whether you are new to the corporate/transactional field or seeking a comprehensive refresher on the most critical aspects of this complex area, this program is tailored for you.

This seminar is a basic level program.

For those required to take South Carolina Bar CLE “Essentials Series.”

Pursuant to SCACR Rule 408(a)(3), newly admitted members are required, unless you fall within one or more of the exemptions outlined in Rule 408 (a)(3)(A)-(D), to complete one (not all) of the SC Bar CLE “Essentials Series” courses. Attendance at Essentials Courses not only meets the Essentials requirement, but also counts toward your required annual 14 hours of MCLE. No other CLE course, workshop, video series (i.e., the Supreme Court’s Course of Study), or bootcamp will satisfy this requirement.

The “Essentials Series” is comprised of 10 full-day courses, which cover major practice areas, as well as legal ethics. Each course is designed and taught by experienced practitioners, are process oriented, and are specifically designed to provide step-by-step teaching, as well as the opportunity to interact with the faculty.

All essentials’ programs will be held live at the SC Bar Conference Center, Columbia.

Programs will not be available via live webinar.

Lunch will be provided for those attending in-person.

In-person attendees will be offered discounts on SC Bar CLE publications.
