Success at Civil Mediation

This CLE will help attorneys and mediators at all levels improve their skills and obtain better results using mediation and other forms of ADR in South Carolina. The following topics will be covered:  

  • Best practices for plaintiff’s attorneys at mediation.
  • Tips and techniques will be discussed, and a checklist for mediation preparation will be provided.
  • Best practices for defense attorneys at mediation. This discussion will include strategies to get beneficial results for your clients. A checklist on what is needed from the defense will be provided.
  • Techniques for mediators to use to obtain satisfactory results and improve their skills.
  • Suggestions on how attorneys and mediators can deal with difficult personalities at mediation.
  • Results from studies on whether mediation works, whether mediation is beneficial for clients, and how clients feel about mediation.
  • Other forms of ADR in South Carolina including arbitration, early neutral evaluation and fast track trials.
  • Ethics in Mediation.
