Saturday, August 19, 2023Join
us on August 18 for two hours you don’t want to miss. The first hour you will
hear from Circuit Court Judge Daniel Coble. Expert testimony in criminal trials
not only must comply with the rules of evidence, but also with the Sixth
Amendment and Crawford. While an expert is sometimes allowed to
testify to hearsay statements, it can become complicated when the hearsay is
testimonial in nature. This CLE explores the rules of evidence for
experts and the interactions with testimonial statements and new South Carolina
case law.
The final
hour we will be joined remotely by Stuart Teicher, the CLE performer, who can weave together three
seemingly unrelated things into a coherent explanation of the rules on conflicts.
You’ve got to see it to believe it. Join Stuart as he explains how:
…Rule 1.10 is best explained by the time he broke his nose during
a pickup basketball game
…a hypothetical case about Spider-Man teaches “direct adversity”
…Stuart’s crush on a particular entertainer explains Rule 1.7
…the Russian Invasion of the Ukraine poses explains the rule on withdrawing (Rule 1.16)
SC Commission Code: #238774ADO.
