Landmark Cases: This important ethics presentation will cover key cases in the field of mental health law that attorneys and even Mental Health professionals must understand in order to effectively and ethically practice in this challenging area. Many of these cases (Jackson v. Indiana, Olmstead v. LC, etc.) touch on specific ethical issues and duties that attorneys face, including when prosecutors should (or must) drop charges, when a defense attorney's advocacy for a client's wellbeing clash with the client's wishes, and the interplay between mental hospitals and the criminal justice system.
