Charles "Charlie" Terreni has practiced law in Columbia, South Carolina, since 1990. He is a 1990 graduate of the University of South Carolina School Of Law. He earned his B.A. degree in International Studies with a minor in French from the University of South Carolina in 1985.

After graduating from law school, Charlie practiced with Cooper, Beard & Dibble (1990 to 91) and the Dibble Law Offices (1991 to 1995). He served as Executive Assistant to the Lieutenant Governor from 1995 to 1996. In 1996, he returned to private practice, opening the Terreni Law Firm, LLC.

In 2004, Charlie joined the Public Service Commission to serve as the Chief Clerk and Administrator of the newly restructured agency. He held this position until February 2010, when he returned to private practice. He advised the South Carolina Senate during the 2000, 2010, and 2020 decennial redistricting cycles. His practice focuses on matters involving public utilities, alternative dispute resolution, government, and public interest law.

Charlie was the lead author of the chapter entitled The Public Service Commission of South Carolina in South Carolina Administrative Practice and Procedure, 2d Ed., and has been a frequent speaker on practice before the Public Service Commission. He is a 2008 graduate of the South Carolina Executive Institute. He has a Martindale-Hubbell AV peer rating and is a FINRA Public Arbitrator.

Charlie served on the Board of Directors of the Greater Columbia YMCA from 2004-2011, the South Carolina Commission on Consumer Affairs from 2004 to 2005, and the Legislative Audit Council since 2015. Born in La Spezia, Italy, he speaks Italian and French. An avid soccer fan, Charlie has coached youth teams and organized many soccer programs in the community. He is married to Patricia Yeatman Terreni; they have two sons, Charles, Jr., and Shand.

Doug Kim, a Physics major from Davidson College, began his professional career as a computer programmer and software engineer. His intellectual property career began in 1998 when he combined his business experience with his legal education and was involved with enforcing a client’s patent against multiple infringers. Since then, Doug has created a well-rounded IP practice that provides legal solutions and strategies tailored to each client from multinational corporations to start-ups. Doug provides his client with strategies to protect inventions (patents), brands (trademarks), websites, software, apps, music, photos, and websites (copyright, licenses, and Internet law), and trade secret (the “secret sauce”). Through the creation of intellectual property rights and their enforcement, Doug seeks to develop legal strategies that fit clients’ business goals and increase the company’s worth. Doug also assists clients with drafting, negotiating, and reviewing license, assignment, independent contractor, and employment agreements as they pertain to intellectual property and ownership. Doug’s business background and legal education and experience make him well suited to understand the interaction between the legal services available to a client, a company’s available resources, and the client’s business goals.

Experience Highlights

• Managed the transfer of an Intellectual Property portfolio purchased with patents and trademark registration and applications in over a dozen countries as well as the United States.
• Helped create and maintain an intellectual property program that resulted in creating significant value for the company that was subsequently sold based principally on IP.
• Enforced use of Part Numbers on replacement parts so that third parties cannot label aircraft replacement parts with our client’s part numbers unless the third party was Authorized Distributor – a significant benefit to helping create a “Certified Parts Program.”
• Created and implemented copyright protection for county GIS information allowing counties better control over the county GIS data for counties in multiple states. Obtained patent protection for many technologies including advanced materials, renewable energy, consumer products, data encryption, sporting goods, military surveillance systems, firearms and accessories, agritech, warehouse management, manufacturing processes, non-motorized vehicles, wind energy systems, solar systems, fibers, education systems, and computer systems.
• Defended a client from the claim that its educational software infringed upon a competitor’s patent to a successful conclusion.
• Defended a candle maker’s claims that its products infringed competitor’s patent and copyrights to a successful conclusion.
• Successfully enforced a municipality’s contract rights relating to a million-dollar software program. 

Henry L. Deneen joined Murphy & Grantland in July 2016 and founded Blindspot Solutions, LLC in July, 2019. Blindspot Solutions focuses on EI training for professionals and Executive Coaching.

He began his legal career as a litigator in private practice, later being appointed a municipal judge for the city of West Columbia, SC.  He served as Chief Legal Counsel for then-South Carolina Governor, David M. Beasley from 1995 through 1997.  Beasley and Deneen co-founded The Center for Global Strategies, Ltd. (www.centerforglobalstrategies.org), a non-profit organization connecting businesspeople to international initiatives.  He currently serves as the Executive Director of CGS and as Executive Director of Global Hope Network International (www.ghni.org).  Deneen also served as President of Greater Europe Mission, during which time he earned a Doctorate in Executive Leadership, with a focus on Emotional Intelligence.   He now regularly offers CLE-accredited courses on Emotional Intelligence designed specifically for lawyers.

A South Carolina native, he served clients in matters involving the defense of South Carolina businesses and through mediation primarily in the upstate from his home in the Greenville area. He continues to serve as Leadership Development Director for Murphy & Grantland, P.A.

Deneen is certified as a Mediator in South Carolina Circuit, Family, and Probate Courts.  He received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law.  He and his wife, Celia, have been married for over 30 years and have four children: Laura, Lee, Leslie, and Layna, two of whom are married. Henry and Celia have three beautiful grandchildren.
