About the Seminar
Cases relating to officer involved shootings present unique challenges for lawyers because of the interplay between the traditional state law causes of action and remedies available pursuant to 42 U.S.C. Sec. 1983. It is important for both defense counsel and counsel for the plaintiff to fully understand the legal and practical landscape in these cases in order to effectively represent their respective clients. The interplay between state law and constitutional remedies in these cases presents unique insurance issues and normally involve a media component due to their subject matter. Additionally, there are unique defenses and immunities that can impact the claims, parties, and potential recovery. This seminar is designed to provide a legal and practical overview of how to handle these issues in order to best represent a client in an officer involved shooting.
