This CLE will discuss the ABA 2017 report, The Path to Lawyer Well-Being: Practical Recommendations for Positive Change presented by the National Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being and will specifically focus on the following:
  • The percentage of lawyers and law students suffering from substance abuse issues, depression and stress and why that is found to be the case
  • The negative implications for the legal profession, individual lawyers, organizations and law firms as a consequence of these issues
  • Reasons to promote well-being, including ethical reasons
  • Recommendations for stake-holders concerning how to promote well-being
  • Recognizing the signs and symptoms of abuse before it is too late
 
About the Speaker
Deborah Bjes is the dedicated risk manager for the lawyer's professional liability program with Swiss Re Corporate Solutions. Deborah is responsible for providing assistance and resources to attorneys by providing on-site CLE seminars, risk management programs, newsletters, and articles. Deborah is a licensed attorney and former partner at a mid-sized insurance defense Chicago law firm.
 
Deborah has also served as a customer service specialist and has facilitated seminars on communication skills. Deborah is a graduate of Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where she received her J.D. cum laude.
 
Mandatory MCLE Credit Hours
This seminar qualifies for 1.0 MCLE credit hour, including up to 1.0 SA/MH credit hour.
